On through Arizona’s spectacular scenery and into California, through desert lands and on to the coast.  Pierre arrived at the Pacific Ocean after travelling coast to coast, clocking up 3,770 miles from the Atlantic at New York.
A ten hour flight on an Air Pacific Boeing 747 from Los Angeles, crossing both the Equator and the Date Line, brought Pierre to the islands of Fiji - literally the other side of the world from Silchester with a time difference of 12 hours from GMT.
The hotel was on a beach with a long coral reef not far off-shore.  Palm trees with coconuts on tall trunks were everywhere.
...California desert landscape
and finally, the Pacific Ocean at Los Angeles!
A major crop in Fiji is sugar cane.  There are many miles of narrow gauge railway lines through the fields, used for collecting the crop once the cane has been cut.
